Job description

Internship / Fixed term for up to 6 months / Full Time (40 hours per week)

Location: Based in the Netherlands. Candidates should be already living in or able to quickly relocate to the Netherlands (at own cost), and have a Dutch social security number (BSN), or should be able to obtain Dutch residence permit and BSN on short notice. Are you passionate about the maritime industry and eager to dive into the complexities of ships technical management? Greenpeace International is seeking a motivated intern to join our Technical Operations Unit!


The Technical Operations Internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the maritime industry, innovative technologies and software implementation while contributing to Greenpeace's mission of environmental conservation.


We are looking for someone who is available to join us from June 2024, for a period of six months. Your specific availability will be requested during the application process.


Responsibilities:

  • Administrative Support:
    • Create a database of technical drawings, plans, manuals, and guidelines.

  • Implementation of New Integrated Planned Maintenance Software:
    • Assist in the implementation process of the new integrated planned maintenance software for the fleet.

  • Information Sharing:
    • Share information on projects with the wider organization, as requested.

  • Support the technical operations team in the day-to-day management of our vessels.

Job requirements

Required skills and competencies:

  • Background in Engineering, Maritime Studies, or related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.

  • IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.

  • Passion for environmental conservation and alignment with Greenpeace goals and values.


The fine print:

  • An Internship is intended for students or recent graduates who have less than 12 months experience in a relevant field.

  • Interns are entitled to 800 euros net as a monthly stipend (based on your full-time /40 hours per week internship).

  • 2.5 days of leave per month for study or other purposes based on your full-time internship and the leave days can be taken in coordination with the supervisor.

  • You will be provided with a laptop for use during your GPI internship, and GPI will offer necessary office equipment if needed.

  • The travel costs (2nd class) for interns to travel from their home in the Netherlands to the GPI office can be reimbursed.

  • GPI will provide meal allowances (€5 Euros per day) on your working days during office hours.

  • The Greenpeace International office in Amsterdam is open and available for working. A combination of remote (within the Netherlands) and from the office work is possible and is the most common way of working.

  • If not otherwise present at the office, the candidate should be able to commute into our Amsterdam office when invited to do so for specific meetings or events. Travel outside of Amsterdam may also occasionally be requested, for which necessary costs will be covered.

  • Interns must be eligible to legally work in the Netherlands and attain a registered address (BSN), and Dutch health insurance (our HR administration team could help you arrange this if you do not yet have one).
